FDA Recalls Millions of Sleep Apnea Machines: What to Do if You Are Affected by a Federal Recall

FDA Recalls Philips CPAP Sleep Apnea Machine

According to news outlets, this past month millions of Phillips Respironics masks used with sleep apnea machines were recalled due to safety concerns. Phillips is currently recalling over 17 million masks due to concerns that magnets in the masks could affect some patients with implanted medical devices.

Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not linked any deaths to the recall, the FDA believes fatal outcomes are possible. As of August 30, Phillips had received 14 reports of injury due to the masks. According to the FDA, the magnets in the masks have affected implanted devices, such as brain stents, aneurysm clips, and pacemakers. Victims of the recall report experiencing symptoms of arrhythmia, seizures, and irregular blood pressure.

Phillips Respironics continues to recall unsafe masks and the FDA warns those with implanted metallic devices to not use their masks. The FDA has also warned those using the masks to avoid even being near another person with implanted metallic devices.

Like this recall, many companies recall a dangerous product after complaints of injury have already been made. If you believe that you or someone you know has been harmed by an unsafe product, it’s important to know what steps to take next.

Dealing With a Recalled Product?

If you are currently using a product and see that a recall has been issued, you should stop using the product. Every recall will come with different terms, sometimes you may be able to get a replacement or refund for the recalled product. Make sure to read the full details of the recall from the recalling company and the FDA’s report of the recall, if there is one.

If you have been injured by a product that has not been recalled yet, you should contact the manufacturing company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. You can also search for certain products or companies if you are worried that you may be using a recalled product here.

If you have suffered harm or injury from a recalled product, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Injured parties can be compensated for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
