Sexual Assaults in a Rideshare
We try cases involving ride share sexual assaults.
Rideshare Sexual Assaults
According to Ridester, the state of California has one of the highest prevalence of Uber drivers with a reported 209,000 drivers per quarter. Rideshare companies, like Uber and Lyft, have marketed their apps to offer people a safe ride home. While rideshare companies have taken many Americans from Point A to Point B safely, a recent increase of sexual assault claims in rideshares has taken place.
In 2019, NPR reported Uber had received almost 6,000 sexual assault claims over the span of only two years. Unfortunately, that number only includes those reports that actually have been reported to Uber.
If you are a victim of sexual assault in a rideshare, it is never your fault. No one should ever be violated, especially when trying to get home safely. Many victims of sexual assault feel ashamed or embarrassed of the attack. However, no victim should feel they did anything wrong after a sexual assault.

What to Do If You or Someone You Know Has Been Sexually Assaulted in a Rideshare:
- Get Medical Attention. Once you receive medical attention for any injuries you may have, please remember nothing that happened is because of anything that you did.
- If you can, avoid taking a shower or bathing before to preserve any possible evidence of the attack.
- File a Report. Immediately file a report with the rideshare company used and with local law enforcement. o Reporting sexual assaults will aid the survivor’s chance of obtaining justice and that no one else becomes a victim.
- Document the Experience. Obtain all documentation (video, photos, messages, etc.) Documentation can help a victim receive justice.
- Even if you are not ready right away, you may decide to file a lawsuit against the attacker, or the report may lead to a criminal investigation and protect others from future attacks.
